Thousands of commuters speed past it every single day. Pedestrians hurry by, unaware of its presence behind the black iron fence. If you’ve driven down Hillsborough Street towards downtown, then you’ve gone past the old Staudt Bakery at the Hillsborough/Morgan Street split. This nondescript art moderne-styled building from the 1940s has sat vacant for around 50 years.
This week Flashback Friday soars high above Raleigh’s beloved State Capitol. The sophisticated 19th century Greek Revival building has stood on this spot for 175 years. We’ll also take a peek at the history of this building and its predecessors. So climb aboard and enjoy the flight!
