Raleigh’s Merrimon-Wynne House: A Win-Wynne Situation

 

Often, one’s first impression of Raleigh’s Merrimon-Wynne House is its size — it is huge! Ever since I first photographed the house with my trusty Kodak Instamatic camera back in the 1960s, I have been intrigued by its architecture and beguiled by what wonderment possibly lay within. Now, many years later, I finally got my wish. Goodnight Raleigh had the opportunity recently to photograph the interior of the mansion, and I can tell you — it’s, well, huge!

Raleigh’s “Pathways of Desire”

Well-worn footpaths exist in cities, suburban areas, and even the rural wilderness, but did you know they had a name? I didn’t until reading an article about their prevalence in other areas. They are referred to as Pathways of Desire and represent the shortest path between an origin and destination where no constructed walkway exists.

The Third Annual Raleigh Wars Assassin’s Ball

This past Saturday was the Third Annual “Assassin’s Ball“, held at the soon to be opened Isaac Hunter’s Oak City Tavern. It was a gathering of participants, their guests, and others to celebrate the end of another round of “Raleigh Wars”, an urban assassin game that takes places a couple of times a year.
