Goodnight Raleigh - a look at the art, architecture, history, and people of the city at night

The Wilmington Street Skyline

Looking North at State Government

Looking northward, above is a large enclave of state government buildings. These including the Revenue Building (foregorund), North Carolina Museum of History (left of Capitol), Bath Building (center background), Education Building (left background), and Archdale Building (center-left background), among others.

What Used to be the Tallest Buildings in Town

In the foreground are Capital Bank Plaza and the Durham Life Insurance Building, (aka “The Superman Building“), which were at different points in time the tallest buildings in Raleigh. The Durham Life Building reigned as the tallest from the 1940s until the BB&T Building (later Capital Bank Plaza) was built in 1965. The view here is seen from what is currently the tallest building, RBC Plaza.
