This week we revisit Nehi Bottling Company. A great deal has changed in the short time since our last Then and Now post  featuring this building, so we decided to give it another go. Since then, the building was purchased by James A. Goodnight who is becoming known for his extensive and detailed building restorations in Raleigh.

Crabtree Jones House Open for Public Tours This Week!

Now is your chance to tour a Raleigh architectural treasure. Through the efforts of Preservation North Carolina (PNC), the historic Crabtree Jones House was rescued from demolition and moved to a site nearby earlier this year.

Public tours of the relocated structure will be held this Thursday, July 31, 5-8 pm, with a repeat tour on Sunday, August 3, 1-4 pm. This may be your last opportunity to explore both the exterior and interior of this gem of Federal style architecture. More details follow below.

Last Chance to Save a Modernist Icon by G. Milton Small, Jr.

The former Northwestern Mutual Insurance Building at 3515 Glenwood Avenue is living on borrowed time. The building I wrote about in 2008, G. Milton Small – My Favorite Architect, is scheduled for demolition unless a tenant steps forward to lease the space.

George Smart of North Carolina Modernist Houses is leading an effort to save this magnificent building, and will hold an open house at the site on May 7th, from 4:30-7:00 PM.
