I wonder if the new 440 project will have an impact to that old stretch of South Wilmington St. It’s been a long time it handled a lot of heavy traffic.

It used to be quite a happening place: Hardees, a Pizza Inn where you could eat in a caboose, Ponderosa Steak House, Gardner’s BBQ and Seafood, Planters Peanuts, the Belvidere Motel and, just inside where the beltline is now, O’Neal Chrysler Plymouth and an ABC store.

If memory serves me right, there was also a Shoney’s Big Boy restaurant down there too. Times have changed.
