Goodnight Raleigh - a look at the art, architecture, history, and people of the city at night

Bird’s Eye View of the State Capitol and Grounds, Raleigh, N.C.

This week for Flashback Friday — flying high!

Many of the buildings shown in this ‘linen’ postcard aerial from 1940 are long gone. Curiously, though, there is one prominent city landmark  NOT shown here.

The structure was standing in 1940 (and had been since 1904 no less) — and in 2011 still is! Can you guess the missing landmark??

Wed — noon
Raleigh, N.C.
Dear Friend & Family — This far but oh so tired.
Bus leaves for Smithfield at 1 p.m. I’ll get home 5 p.m.
Love to all from
Pansy

First Baptist Church–the one on Wilmington, not the one on Salisbury–isn’t depicted.

Richard- good eye! You’re right!

The old education building, across Salisbury from FBC Salisbury, is also not shown.
