Goodnight Raleigh - a look at the art, architecture, history, and people of the city at night

Photography Exhibits for the Month of March

First Friday for the month of March will feature two photography events: the Allen Forge Traveling Photography Show and ghosts of movement and shelter. The former is a photography exhibit about travel, the latter features my photographs of buildings and items associated with travel that have since been abandoned.

The show at the Allen Forge Gallery, which is located at Kurt Eichenberger AIA in the Warehouse District. The show features work by the following photographers:

  • Katherine Ball
  • Jessica Cochran
  • Jason Cole
  • Kurt Eichenberger
  • Tina Partin
  • Doug Van de Zande
  • Marshall Wyatt

I’ve seen the works of several of these, and already know it will be a great show.

The ghosts of movement and shelter exhibit at Café Helios features photography of abandoned buildings and modes of transportation in the Rust Belt (mainly Detroit and rural Ohio), but there are a few from North Carolina as well. It will be up for the rest of the month of March.

Although not a part of First Friday, March 13th will see the exhibited titled Photographs by Allen Weiss and Works by His Subjects:

Entitled “Black & White/Color & Light,” the exhibition will include black and white photographic portraits of well-known artists by Allen Weiss, alongside examples of their work. The featured artists are: Edith London, Ted Potter, Herb Jackson, Joe Cox, George Bireline, Harvey Littleton, Maud Gatewood, Claud Howell, Robert Irwin, Francis Speight, and Sarah Blakeslee. Opening: Sun., March 13, 2-5 p.m.

This show will be at the Lee Hansley Gallery on Glenwood Avenue.
