Goodnight Raleigh - a look at the art, architecture, history, and people of the city at night

Art to Wear 2010

I am really excited to be writing this particular post, for a few reasons:

  1. Art to Wear was really cool, and there was a very diverse body of work
  2. It’s a good kickoff to a few fashion posts that are gonna be posted (Redress Raleigh is on Saturday, and I’m dubbing this week Raleigh Fashion Week)
  3. It’s not about the Jackpot!

Ok, in all seriousness, Art to Wear returned this year to Reynolds Coliseum on NC State’s campus, and it was a smashing hit, again. These kids have talent. The pool of designers expanded further this year, where traditionally the work has come from Anni Albers Scholars (textiles/art & design majors) and Textiles or Art & Design Majors, this year’s lineup included students from Landscape Architecture, Architecture, and even Food Sciences!

Here was the lineup:

Laura Maruzzella /// Senior – Art & Design – College of Design

Keely Cansler /// Senior – Anni Albers Scholar**

Hannah Goff /// Senior – Textile and Apparel Management – College of Textiles

Eleanor Hoffman /// Senior – Anni Albers Scholar**

Kendal Leonard /// Senior – Textile and Apparel Management – College of Textiles

Gennie Catastrophe /// Senior – Art & Design – College of Design

Chase Kennedy /// Junior – Fashion and Textile Management – College of Textiles

Jeremy Medlin /// Senior – Art & Design – College of Design

Natalie Bunch /// Senior – Landscape Architecture – College of Design

Margaret Jamison /// Senior – Environmental Design in Architecture – College of Design

Lauren Boynton /// Senior – Art and Design – College of Design

Kirk Smith /// Senior – Food Science – College of Agriculture and Food Sciences

All the work was amazing! Here are some photos:

The lighting wasn’t great for me, and there was a pole to contend with, but I had a great time and always enjoy seeing the hard work of the students. As I mentioned earlier, this “Raleigh Fashion Week” that I’ve dubbed continues this weekend with the Redress Raleigh Fashion Show, where designers aim to prove that there is room for environmentalism and green thought even in the world of fashion. Come check it out! Until next year, when more young designers showcase their amazing talents.
