Goodnight Raleigh - a look at the art, architecture, history, and people of the city at night

It’s Been a Good Week for Art

This past week had a lot of really cool stuff going on – we’ll start with Wednesday. Over at the College of Design at NC State, award winning photojournalist David Evans stopped by to give a lecture about his experiences with photography, philanthropy, and documenting life. According to the College of Design’s DESIGNlife News site:

Award-winning photographer David Evans has captured images from around the world while on assignment for clients like National Geographic Society, Discovery Channel, China Foto Press, and the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

David, a 1984 graduate of NC State’s College of Design, has worked in a variety of executive creative positions on three continents. He has garnered awards for design, creative direction, art direction, motion graphics, branding, and other endeavors. As Creative Director for National Geographic Television (NGT), he played a key role in the global launch of the National Geographic Channel and served as director of the NGT photography operations. David still acts as Executive Producer for the occasional film, but mainly focuses on his career as an independent documentary photographer.

International corporations that include National Geographic, National Geographic Traveler, USA Today, Time/CNN, The Washington Post, Discovery Channel, BBC, and IBM have published David’s images.

The show will be up at the College of Design’s Brooks Hall from November 3 – November 30. For more information about David Evans, visit his web site.

And if that wasn’t enough, this past friday was a First Friday, which meant bike riding around town to different galleries. We made the usual stops, with one new one – the Visual Art Exchange in City Market. This month, they are having a show about graffiti, one of my favorite art forms.

Also, Bike First Friday had its good friend Sho Nuff stop by and ride the route with us. Always a pleasure!

That\'s not his bike. His is just as cheetah-coated as his jacket!

His bike isn’t in the pic, but it’s just as cheetah covered as his jacket!

As always, we ended at the Fish Market where yours truly had a piece of art in the show – a Mac-o-Lantern!

Sho Nuff. Love that guy. We threw him a huge party for his B-Day at the FarmHouse. What a great night.

Mac-o-Lantern is just about the coolest thing I have seen! Simple and Brilliant! Now i know what I am doing with all my old iMacs for holiday decorations.I see an installation in my future. Version 2 maybe… I am definitely doing a remix of this next year with ambient environmental enhancements ;)

That was your Mac-O-Lantern? Sweetness. You had a lot of Tweeps there at one point appreciating it.

Man, I’ve seen that guy around and thought he has long deserved the best dressed award for Raleigh. The fact that his name is Sho Nuff makes him cooler by an order of magnitude.

Awesome.
