Goodnight, Raleigh! - a look at the art, architecture, history, and people of the city at night

To Some, A Train Is No Obstacle

A stopped train on the tracks at the intersection of West Jones Street and Glenwood Avenue proved to be no obstacle for revelers on a Friday night. At first, many hopped under it like the gentleman pictured above.

After a few people did a ‘tuck and roll’ to get under the train, most simply hopped between the cars filled with Anhydrous Ammonia.

What was particularly interesting is that there were only 3 more cars out of view of this intersection. It really would have only taken an extra minute or two to walk around the last carriage.

Sorry, Jonathan, didn’t mean to generalize. I really was just referring to the ones crossing the train tracks.

I love that last shot especially…All the folks lined up to clamber aboard a rail car labeled Anhydrous Ammonia (a certain insidious foreboding, no?) reminded me of the classic Twiilight Zone episode “To Serve Man.” (3rd season–1961-62) Good job, John!

That is the DUMBEST action I have ever seen. Didn’t the get that the train could start moving at any minute? And what about the fact that there is AMONIA in the cars. If I was there, I simply would have gone back to my car and driven around it. Maybe they were all drunk :) But seriously, they weren’t thinking. And no, Jonathan, I am not hating on 20 year olds, just anyone who would do that. I am barely 13 myself.
