Skateboarding on Fayetteville Street
One thing I’ve been somewhat surprised at with regard to activity in and around town is the lack of skateboarders. There are plenty of them out there, and the hub of the local online skateboarding community is run by someone local to Raleigh.Â
Â
The skateboarders pictured are Quintin, John, and Austin.Â
It was only about 5 minutes before someone called the Raleigh Police Department to complain about the noise caused by the skateboarders at 8 PM on a Friday night.

Wow, that’s some response time for skateboarders in the middle of downtown at that time of night. The police never show up in less than 45 minutes when we call about the college kids partying outside our bedroom windows at 3am on Monday night. Maybe next time we should say they are skateboarding. ::rolling eyes dramatically::

The skateboarding used to be much better on Fayetteville St when it was a pedestrian mall. I’m pretty sure that was the only thing that was better when it was that way.

Yeah, I’m sure they responded in 5 minutes for a noise complaint. It probably had nothing to do with the fact that you were DOWNTOWN, two blocks from the police station, in an area the cops are ALWAYS patrolling.

Why do cops even care if they are skating? What real damage is being done? Way to go RPD as usual!!

I think the construction or Yancy’s makes much more noise than skateboarding.

Just look at the pictures, they can scrape the concrete steps and sidewalks, let alone the guys actually going up onto the marbled planters. I can’t believe someone would think that people shouldn’t care about the skateboarders. It is damaging to the property they are around.

They probably know my name all over the station cause I call them all the time. They have an excellent response time where I am at, though some of the new folks there do not really know the law.
I have researched with the City Clerk and found an ordinance stating that it is illegal, unless designated to be a play area, to skateboard in the street. I have contacted a srgt to follow up with the local youth in my area..as their respect has recently gone out the window. (Backed up by their very foolish arrogant parents as well.)
