Have you ever wondered what goes on during the meticulous process of restoration of a historic building? If you are curious, now’s your chance for a behind the scenes tour of four historic downtown Raleigh landmarks! The tours, sponsored by the Raleigh Historic Development Commission, will take place this Saturday, January 10, 3.00-5.00 pm. Read on for the details!
Now is your chance to tour a Raleigh architectural treasure. Through the efforts of Preservation North Carolina (PNC), the historic Crabtree Jones House was rescued from demolition and moved to a site nearby earlier this year.
Public tours of the relocated structure will be held this Thursday, July 31, 5-8 pm, with a repeat tour on Sunday, August 3, 1-4 pm. This may be your last opportunity to explore both the exterior and interior of this gem of Federal style architecture. More details follow below.
Storytelling is vital to historic preservation in our community. We can put forth all of the money and effort to keep a structure sound, but without the avid storytellers, these structures would not hold the time-tested significance that they deserve. That’s one of the reasons that I, like so many of my Raleigh neighbors, am so fond of Goodnight Raleigh. The Goodnight Raleigh community brings awareness to our city’s fascinating past, which makes us more thoughtful when planning for the future.
