In recognition of the opening of the 145th North Carolina State Fair this week, we present on Flashback Friday a 1950s photochrome postcard depicting a long-time State Fair landmark and North Carolina’s most recognized modernist structure — the J.S. Dorton Arena.
This week’s Flashback Friday feature is a so-called ‘Big Letter’ postcard, popular with the American traveling public of the 1930s and ’40s. And, quite by coincidence, we revisit with it the ‘Ronson Twenty Questions’ radio show of the 1940s.
For Flashback Friday this week, we feature this fine ‘linen’ post card of Raleigh’s famed Hotel Sir Walter. The card depicts a dramatic view of the hotel — I love that huge neon sign and the twin radio towers mounted on the roof. However, the message written on the back reveals a hint of peril.
