Our Flashback Friday post this week features a now long-gone mansion that once enlivened the Blount Street Historic District. It was the home of two Episcopal bishops, as well as that of one of Raleigh’s most prominent early 20th century families.
Our Flashback Friday postcard this week features what is no doubt the grandest Neo-Classical portico in Raleigh. It adorns the façade of Smedes Hall, the principal building on the Saint Mary’s School campus.
We previously published this postcard on Flashback Friday in 2011, but this week the interest is the message written on the back more than the card itself. So, we welcome the New Year with a sweet greeting from long ago.
