The Heilig-Levine Building

The former Heilig-Levine furniture store has always caught my attention when in the area around Wilmington and Hargett Streets. This building truly is one of the gems of the downtown area. Visible in Mr. Drie’s famous 1872 aerial map of Raleigh, it dates back to around 1870.

The Bath Building: Ugliest In Raleigh



This is the Bath Building. I’m not sure what state business or research takes place here, but it is pretty dreadful looking from the outside. If it had more windows then it would probably blend in with the rest of the bland state government buildings around it.
What do you think is the ugliest building in Raleigh?

UPDATE: March 2010: Is it possible to have a change of heart? Sure it is. I no longer view this as the ugliest building, there are so many more that lack the charm and character that this one does.
