Goodnight Raleigh - a look at the art, architecture, history, and people of the city at night

The Last Building on West Martin Street

This building sits at the spot West Martin St ends. I know nothing of its history or former purpose. It’s one of the old Dillon buildings, so I’m guessing it was used used to store or prepare steel products, because it’s so close to the railroad tracks.

Abandoned Fashion Center

I have no information on this place. The “Fashion Center” is just a shell of a building facade. It appears that something will be put in its place once the front end is destroyed. See my earlier post on the Raleigh Sandwich Shop to see another business nearby in the same condition.

Located at South Wilmington St.

The Bulldozer Building

The North Carolina Equipment Rental Building, aka The Bulldozer Building. You can read about it in the news here.

I can give some additional insight into recent developments. The building isn’t going to be knocked down. Bob Young, the CEO of Lulu, has enormous respect for old buildings with character. As such, the building will remain intact. Provided that the city is accomodating, the bulldozer sign itself won’t be heading for the scrapyard.
