Our postcard view this week depicts Raleigh’s Mediterranean-styled Woman’s Club building. It was built on Hillsboro St. in 1914 and featured a lounge, dining room, meeting rooms, and apartments for single women.

For Flashback Friday this week we feature a postcard depicting the elegant Commercial National Bank. Many consider it Raleigh’s finest early 20th century commercial building. It was designed in 1912 by the talented Atlanta architect, P. Thornton Marye.

In 1909 ‘Bob’ wrote the folks back home in Cambridge, Illinois, dissing Raleigh’s Wake County courthouse building. Maybe he should have sent them a postcard of the state capitol instead.
