Goodnight Raleigh - a look at the art, architecture, history, and people of the city at night

The Revenue Building

This 1920s view of the NC Revenue Building facing Capitol Square shows two long demolished buildings: Raleigh Fire Station 1 (left) and the Olivia Raney Library (right).

This building was occupied 1926. The Department of Revenue collects $25,000,000 annually from automobile licenses and privileges, profits, inheritances, etc., there being no state taxes.

Below the informational text, postmarked 1931:

Dear Billy,
Hope all’s well. am with my daddy this week having lots of fun
I am in Raleigh, N.C.
yours truly

Bobby

The building is now known as the Old Revenue Complex, and is on the corner of Morgan and Salisbury Streets. The postcard was published by Alfred Williams & Co., which recently announced that they are moving back to the Downtown area.

“Flashback Friday” is a weekly feature of Goodnight, Raleigh! in which we showcase vintage postcards depicting our historic capital city. We hope you enjoy this week end treat!
