Goodnight Raleigh - a look at the art, architecture, history, and people of the city at night

Graphic Design Senior Show: Design for Relief and Aid

Among the many other events taking place for First Friday is the show for senior design students at NC State.  The theme is the use of graphic design within aid or crisis situations, at both local and global levels.

A few of the topics covered include deforestation prevention, affordable housing, economic development in rural North Carolina, promoting literacy in Afghanistan, among many others.

There are several opportunities for technology to better the lives of those in need, and those opportunities can’t be effective without good communication and design. This is a good chance to see innovation in this field on a practical level.

Welcome to our senior graphic design exhibition: Design for Relief and Aid. This semester, we have worked to demonstrate the role of graphic design within crisis and disaster situations. Our emphasis was on identifying and addressing the needs which arise in crises. These design solutions are a response to this need, demonstrating that we can be more than just producers of beautiful design, but also be essential to understanding breakdowns in communication in order to diagnose a problem. We have expanded our personal expectations for what design can be and do; and we share this exhibition with you not to display finished products or final solutions, but as a way to continue the life of our work.

The show consists of several media formats including projections, pin-ups, as well as assembled books.

The College of Design’s Downtown Studio is located at 131 1/2 Wilmington Street.
