Saw this on the corner of Hillsborough St. and Morgan St. the other morning. “Forgive..” ? This is where I try to insert a witty comment, like did someone do something so bad they are asking for forgiveness … or is this a message to everyone who drives by. Kinda makes you think.

funny – I actually drove by when this was being painted. Couldn’t tell what it was going to say yet though.

you don’t need to use instagram or hipstamatic or anything like that to make a nice picture. just take the picture and post it; it’s more real that way. [unless you shot this on a 6×6, then i apologize]

adam – this photo was not put through a piece of software such as hipstamatic. It was taken by Bryan Regan, a professional photographer with years of experience. The unique look of this photo is due to the hour in which it was taken–sunrise (which is the theme of the “Morning View” column). The square aspect ratio is the result of a crop, something done by photographers since the craft began.
You can see more of Bryan’s photos here: http://www.bryanreganphotography.com/

oops, my apologies. he has some very nice work. i guess i’m just conditioned in this day and age to think that a vignetted’, high saturation square picture is the result of the aforementioned software.

Wow – don’t know which is stronger….the picture’s light, or Adam’s negativity. Shame folks who are the fastest to post, have the most negative comments. It’s…..sad. But in a different way from the photo.

I forgive!

I am kind of having a hard time forgiving the incomplete ellipsis, but love morning view!

I wonder if the person who did this is responsible for the bubbles on the jackpot building, too?? In both cases, thank you! I like it!

The bubbles on the Jackpot building are nice, but the small stenciled bubbles all over the rest of town are a bit much. Graffiti for the public is terrific, but the artist who’s responsible for this went overboard. Keep your eye out. It’s as if the artist went out one night and literally painted the town. You can follow his/her “trail” as they walked down Hillsborough towards downtown. They hit a cornerstone on the new CAM building and peppered the train bridge area at Peace and West. Nice design, but overboard. Would you all look into this for a future post?

Tyler – yes. the paint here is one thing, as the Staudt Bakery will be torn down eventually (as will Jackpot). I also really loved the hidden mural at Edna Metz Wells Park.
However, I get angry when buildings/private property are vandalized (especially if CAM was included). The problem is, they want attention and highlighting what they do (even in a negative light) may have the unintended effect of making it worse. This isn’t even addressing the untalented hacks who are trashing Hillsborugh Street (“WIMP”, among others).
