Goodnight Raleigh - a look at the art, architecture, history, and people of the city at night

Raleigh Wars Begins Fifth Game August 1

The local urban assasin game, Raleigh Wars, begins its fifth game on August 1 at midnight. Each game sees new players join, and this round has picked up several sponsors for the event.

The game is played like this: each competitor is assigned another player as a target. You have to assassinate that target with a water weapon. If you succeed, you inherit whomever they were hunting. While you are attempting to make your hit you are being hunted by another assassin. If you are assassinated, you lose. The game continues until only one remains: the Ultimate Assassin.

Assassins can register and enroll at the newly redesigned raleighwars.com. The game begins August 1 at midnight and ends on the 21st with the extravagant Assassin’s Ball, hosted at White Collar Crime and sponsored by PBR and Jimmy John’s.

The guys behind Raleigh Wars have put together a new site and version of the software that manages the game online. Statistics on kills and number of players are publicly displayed, and you are notified of your target by the game.

Each game is concluded with an Assassin’s Ball, a celebration involving participants of the game. The event includes free food, bands, and beers for all participants of the game. The event is open to non-players for a small entrance fee. This year’s Assassin’s Ball is August 21. It’s hosted by White Collar Crime and is sponsored by Jimmy John’s and PBR. DJ Yes! Sputnik will be laying down the dance tracks.

Just to clarify, there is no entry fee for the Assassin’s Ball. However, if you want free Jimmy John’s and PBR you’ll need to either play the game or get a ticket. Tickets will be $10 and you can get them at the door. White Collar never charges a cover, so you can definitely join us for the fun, but you’ll have to get your drinks at the bar if aren’t a cold-watered killer or ticket holder.
