Goodnight Raleigh - a look at the art, architecture, history, and people of the city at night

Latte Art Throwdown at Helios

Baristas from around the region are gathering at Café Helios tonight at 7PM to participate in the ‘Latte Art Throwdown’.

It’s $5 to compete in the contest and each competitor gets one extraction consisting of two shots of espresso. The competitor can split those shots into two lattes or use both for one larger latte, but only gets one chance to steam milk. The lattes are judged based on symmetry, form, and contrast. After all the lattes are poured, the scores are compared and the winner is announced.

The winner receives the pot of money gathered from the competitors plus coffee a few pounds of coffee donated by Counter Culture (sponsor of the event).
