Goodnight, Raleigh! - a look at the art, architecture, history, and people of the city at night

The Street Genie at the Ladies Shop

This man was belting out some beautiful sounds on the corner of Hargett and Wilmington Streets on Friday night. The Street Genie is the name he gave me, and I can understand why after listening for a few minutes. He wanted me to make sure the lady in the background was in the picture, and I happily obliged.

I saw that fella in the exact same spot last Friday. It was my birthday and as we were closing down Raleigh Times, he was playing his heart out. It was a great way to end the night. Some sultry tunes on a sultry August night.

His Name is Freddie Greene and he has an awesome band that is available for all kinds of bookings. I’ve seen him at weddings and last year @ the Down East Festival in Rocky Mount. I have his business card… here’s his number for anyone want a very professional band 919-494-5759.

I play with Freddy in his band. Thanks y’all for the appreciation you show here. He is awesome!!! He plays the soprano, alto and tenor saxophones and rocks a bad six string bass! You should see him get loose in a performance. It’s worth witnessing. He’s NC’s best kept secret that should be OUT. Thanks again, on his behalf, for the love.
