Raleigh Sandwich Shop

John

As the sign says, it’s been here since 1929. Unfortunately, it appears to have been closed for some time. It is located on S. Wilmington St.

Does anyone have more information on this place?

Then and Now, Part 2

John

(2004)

I ran into this gentleman several years ago when walking around downtown Raleigh. He was selling magazine subscriptions for charity. You wouldn’t actually get the magazines, as they were donated too. He was also garnering compliments on his demeanor in order to show a judge that he was a reputable guy.

(2007)
Around the time of the Mike Nifong trial in Raleigh, lots of news trucks were gathered downtown near the Capitol, and this fella popped out again. He obviously didn’t remember me, but I remembered him and his story. He said he was still clean and still selling subscriptions. When I asked how long he had been away from Raleigh, he said “three years” which was how long ago it had been since I saw him.
