Goodnight Raleigh - a look at the art, architecture, history, and people of the city at night

“Life is Rich and Full”, This Thursday at Rebus Works

NC Equipment Building on Hillsborough Street

I’m hard pressed to think of another artist in which I admire the subject matter and medium as that of Luke Buchanan. His works typically showcase the artifacts of man; often the industrial, abandoned and/or forgotten ones. He has a show this Thursday (June 3rd) at Rebus Works showcasing areas around Raleigh.

Exploring areas such as urban decay, geometry in a historical context, and the role of the machines and buildings around us, Luke shows viewers a slice of urbanity frozen in time. On display will be the places around us we often overlook, presented in an artistic way.

More information about the event:

Rebus Works is pleased to announce “Life is Rich and Full,” two exhibitions of new work by Raleigh artist Luke Miller Buchanan. This main exhibition, of paintings, will open at Rebus Works on Thursday, June 3, with a reception from 6-10 p.m. An accompanying exhibition of drawings will open at Stitch on Friday, June 4 with a reception from 6 -10 p.m. Both exhibitions will continue through July 27.

The opening reception for the exhibition at Rebus Works will feature catering by Posh Nosh.

Luke Miller Buchanan’s painting style deftly integrates site-specific found objects and collected personal ephemera atop a base of photography. Building upon those layers of photography, the paintings feature building facades and architectural elements. The sum–the painting–is made richer through the connections suggested with its parts.

See more works in the exhibit at The Rebus Works web site.
