As the sign says, it's been here since 1929. Unfortunately, it appears to have been closed for some time. It is located on S. Wilmington St.

Does anyone have more information on this place?

(2004)

I ran into this gentleman several years ago when walking around downtown Raleigh. He was selling magazine subscriptions for charity. You wouldn't actually get the magazines, as they were donated too. He was also garnering compliments on his demeanor in order to show a judge that he was a reputable guy.

(2007)
Around the time of the Mike Nifong trial in Raleigh, lots of news trucks were gathered downtown near the Capitol, and this fella popped out again. He obviously didn't remember me, but I remembered him and his story. He said he was still clean and still selling subscriptions. When I asked how long he had been away from Raleigh, he said "three years" which was how long ago it had been since I saw him.

A most beautiful complex. It's like the jellyfish of the downtown architecture world. If it were under the sea.

The sign says Finch's, and it look like a restaurant, but I'm not entirely sure what this place is today. Right off of Peace St., next to Peace Camera.

My friend Sid (pictured) and I were walking around town last week, and we stumbled upon this place. It has definitely seen better years, and the block was surrounded by lots with stairways to grass plateaus. Walk another 2-3 blocks and you are going by some very nice looking condos for sale.

This couple met only moments before I saw them (I think). In case you are wondering, the color of his eyes was not induced by the flash.

This is the official beginning of the Goodnight, Raleigh! blog. Goodnight Raleigh! is the tentative name for a project I have been working on for some time.

When I first moved to Raleigh, NC in 2004, I knew next to nothing about the place. I didn't move here as a direct result of anything in particular. I knew one person that lived in Chapel Hill (30 min away) and that was it.

It was also around this time that I inherited my parents' old 35mm SLR camera when they upgraded to digital. Seeing as though I had no girlfriend, job, or school schedule I had to find something to do with my time. I went downtown and started taking pictures, as it provided a good way to spend time as well as explore the city.

Fast forward to 2007, and I've hatched a new scheme. Combining my love to both night photography and cityscapes has produced an idea to document the places, people, and landmarks of the downtown area after dark.

The pictures taken prior to today will be added here in an out-of-order fashion. This first picture is of me, in May of 2005 on the corner of Hargett and Dawson.
