A lucky fan that got to go onstage and sing with Elvis

Debbie, Nina, and Robert outside of the performance on Friday night.

The past Friday I continued on in the same area as last week, the NCSU campus area of Hillsborough St.

Part of what I am trying to show people in this blog is the multitude of things going on in Raleigh's night life. I usually just go to a random area and start taking pictures. For this photo series, I happened to hear what seemed to be a concert, but I wasn't sure where it was coming from. I was walking down Clark Ave., close to the Cameron Village area.

I started sorting things out and guessed that it was something at the Raleigh Little Theater. As I approached, I quickly realized that it was a tribute to The King! Watching Keith Henderson perform Elvis songs was a real treat. Had I known this was happening, I would have brought a longer lens (better reach from far away) to capture the show.

The North Carolina Equipment Rental Building, aka The Bulldozer Building. You can read about it in the news here.

I can give some additional insight into recent developments. The building isn't going to be knocked down. Bob Young, the CEO of Lulu, has enormous respect for old buildings with character. As such, the building will remain intact. Additionally, the bulldozer sign itself won't be heading for the scrapyard.

On the corner of Brooks And Clark Ave.

Some information from their official web site states that:
In 1953 the present church site at Brooks and Clark was purchased from North Carolina State College. To accommodate a membership that had outgrown the original building, plans for construction of an educational building and student center were begun. The first service in the newly completed building was on December 2, 1956.

Here recently I have had many shots with the bar Katmandu. In the case this week it happened to be purely coincidental, but I would like to spend a quick moment to talk about them.

When I first moved to Raleigh, my first experience of local music and clubbing was at the Comet Lounge, across from East Village. Sadly, they shuttered up and the building remained empty for some time. I do not have specific dates or information, but a while ago Katmandu opened in its place. I visited it a few times because they were dog-friendly. A friend of mine was bartending there and she said that dogs were ok if well behaved. I haven't been in a while (almost a year) so I can't say if this is still the policy.

Either way, it was nice being back inside of a place that was familiar, yet somewhat now a bit more mature. I'm happy to see it is still in business. The fact I can walk to it makes it even better!

Several people I do not know

Pantana's Pool Hall is a place I didn't know existed until the night I grabbed these photos. It is located in a red building with no sign or labels of any sort. It is across from Pantana Bob's ( PB's) on Hillsborough St.

As you can tell from the last few images, I spent some time near the NCSU area. I'll probably showing images of the west end of Hillsborugh St for a while.

This is the corner of Dixie and Hillsborough, where East Village and Katmandu are.

This is perhaps my favorite bookstore in all of Raleigh. The fact that there is a selection of books for 25 cents (available 24/7) probably resulted in its #1 status with me. Located @ 3201 Hillsborough Street.

I figured since I took so many pictures from the Sheraton that I should at least include one of the hotel itself.
