The Youngest Dombalis Watching the Bus at Mecca

Leaning against the glass door is Paul Jr., grandson of Paul Dombalis (middle right), the proprietor and grandson of the founder of Mecca Restaurant. The elder Paul noted that “he loves to watch the buses go by”.

First Friday – December 2009

December has rolled in, and it brought with it cold, wet weather, a downtown ice-skating rink, really early sunsets, and most importantly, new gallery openings! Yes, Raleigh’s burgeoning creative class was out in force on Friday, despite the cold and sometimes rainy weather conditions. Couple this with the aforementioned ice skating rink as part of WinterFest ’09, and you had a great crowd out enjoying the city!

Raleigh’s Merrimon-Wynne House: A Win-Wynne Situation

 

Often, one’s first impression of Raleigh’s Merrimon-Wynne House is its size — it is huge! Ever since I first photographed the house with my trusty Kodak Instamatic camera back in the 1960s, I have been intrigued by its architecture and beguiled by what wonderment possibly lay within. Now, many years later, I finally got my wish. Goodnight Raleigh had the opportunity recently to photograph the interior of the mansion, and I can tell you — it’s, well, huge!
