Looks like maybe new life will be breathed into this building for a new rail/multi-transportation station.

"My guess is that this set of tracks once connected to the Wye,"

They absolutely did. There's a lot of track that used to cover that part of Raleigh that has vanished without a trace. There were actually two tracks on the north side of that building that were used by Dillon and that also went farther east into the city, another couple of blocks. The Train Geek eye can read the signs :)

One of the Dillon Supply Co. Buildings (perhaps on West St? Harrington St?) was used as a roller skating rink for several years. I went to a number of birthday parties at this rink when I was in elementary school...late '50s-early 60s.

I love these! Vacant buildings always possess so much character--it's amazing how something empty can invite your eye.

Anyway, I work with an organization called First Person Arts, and we're looking for documentary photographers to help spread the word about our nationwide competition First Person America: In These Hard Times.

We're a Philadelphia-based non-profit organization dedicated to memoir and documentary art in all forms, and this year our goal is to attract essays, photos and films from all 50 states documenting how individuals and communities are coping with economic challenges. You can find out more about the competition, prizes and judges at http://firstpersonamerica.org

I love these photos! The ethereal ambience of the first one evokes an image of an early medieval Italian church interior. Very cool.
