How Raleigh has changed and changes !! I remember the Seaboard building from way back, if 1947 can be considered wayback !! I think Mark has a good idea, all that is needed is the money to pay the bill !!! I am now nearing my 84th birthday on September 27.. I lived in Raleigh from 1947(after I got out of the USN) til 1949(when I went into the USAF),after the Air Force, I worked at Carolina Rim and Wheel on South Blount street and again ,after I was married from 1952 til 1954 at 101 Hudson Street, and worked at William Daniels Camera Shop in his Sir Walter Photo, upstairs on Hargett Street.. my wife, Laura, got homesick, so we moved back to Missouri... Raleigh will always have a big corner of my heart and memory !! I love seeing pictures and reading about it...

I have long thought the Seaboard building should be moved again, next the Edenton St Haywood House. The proximity to the Museum History and and fact its quite a remarkable historical element, would make it ideal for unique exhibits, particularly civil war era ones. It would also set the structure nearer to other historic structures....the 1800 Haywood House, White-Holman....essentially tying it into a (I envision) a nice carriage tour of Blount Street once its all fully restored.

The juxtaposition of the old building and the new building in the last photo is simply phenomenal. Old vs. new, yin/yang, positive/negative, it just has a certain balance to it.
